SHEIKHPURA: An executive engineer of a power distribution company was found hanging inside his rented accommodation in Bihar’s Sheikhpura district on Sunday, police said.Ashwini Kumar Chandra (35), a native of Hasanpur in Samastipur district, had joined the Sheikhpura divisional headquarters of South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited as executive engineer (civil) around nine months ago, according to news agency PTI.“Upon receiving information that Chandra had locked his room from inside and was not opening it despite repeated knocks, police reached the spot and broke open the door. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan,” Sheikhpura SHO Dharmendra Kumar said.Preliminary information suggests that Chandra took the extreme step following an argument with his wife over smoking, he added.However, the exact reason leading to his death could only be ascertained after proper investigation, Kumar said.According to officials, Chandra lived with his wife, Pammi, and their four-year-old son in a rented house near College Mor on Kachchi Road in Sheikhpura.Following the argument, Chandra went to his room and locked the door from inside. When he did not respond despite repeated attempts by family members, his wife alerted the police. Officers later reached the spot and recovered his body, officials said.Police have initiated an investigation and are awaiting further findings.
