PPU issues show cause notices to 14 teachers over absence

Patna: Patliputra University (PPU) on Thursday issued show-cause notices to principal-in-charge R S Kachhway and 13 teachers of Nalanda College, Biharsharif — a constituent unit of the varsity — after they were allegedly found absent during a surprise inspection conducted by vice-chancellor (VC) Upendra Prasad Singh on Wednesday.PPU registrar Abu Bakar said the inspection was carried out to assess the college’s academic and administrative functioning. During the visit, several faculty members from different departments, along with the principal-in-charge, were absent from duty without prior information.Following the inspection, the VC directed all those concerned to submit their explanations by 4pm on May 16. “The university administration has taken the matter seriously, and further action may follow depending on the replies submitted,” Bakar said, adding that the move is part of ongoing efforts to ensure discipline and regular attendance in colleges as per the chancellor’s directives. The VC said there would be no compromise in the interest of students, and all possible steps would be taken to ensure teachers’ presence and regular conduct of classes. “Surprise inspections will continue in the coming days,” he added.Sources said it is mandatory for teachers to remain present in colleges for at least five hours on working days, failing which the university administration may initiate disciplinary action.
