Ranchi: Ahead of the proposed rollout of special intensive revision (SIR) of eletoral roll in the state, chief minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday asked party cadres to remain sensitive and committed to ensure that no eligible voter is left out in their respective areas. Addressing workers on the concluding day of JMM’s two-day orientation programme, he asked party workers to prepare for a different kind of fight for the public. “We must rise to the occasion to ensure that as and when the SIR is rolled out, no eligible person is robbed of their democratic right. It should be our duty to protect it. Be aware, and vigilant so that no single voter is left out,” he said.Workers from all 24 districts along with party MPs and MLAs attended the two-day programme in Ranchi. Party sources said that during the meeting deliberation on the current political situation in the country and JMM’s stand on the issues were carried out. Citing the mass deletion of people from voter lists during the SIR exercise in Bihar and Bengal, Hemant directed the party units to begin mobilisation from booth to district levels so that workers are aware of dos and don’ts. “Besides focusing on urban areas, the party must also be prepared to reach out to people in rural and remote areas where a majority may not be aware of the intricacies of SIR and the processes to prove their legitimacy while filling up various forms,” the CM said, accusing BJP of conspiring to deprive poor, dalits, tribals and backward communities of their voting rights under the cover of SIR, and thereby also ensuring they fail to receive important benefits such as ration cards and pensions. “JMM must be ready to discharge its responsibility for the public interest,” he added.
