Ranchi: Just a day after the publication of the draft electoral roll on Wednesday following the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), booth-level officers (BLOs) across Ranchi on Thursday started to get numerous queries via phone calls and in-person visits from voters seeking to verify whether their names have appeared in the draft roll.BLO Ravi Shekhar said that from Wednesday morning till Thursday afternoon, he had received at least 50 calls from voters seeking to know whether their names are in the draft.“Right after the draft was published, I checked whether the names of all voters who submitted enumeration forms appeared in the draft, as I was apprehensive of facing backlash from them if names go missing. After finding all names in the list, I was relieved,” the BLO said.He said despite that, he has been receiving calls and in-person visits by electors since Wednesday and rechecking the draft and informing them that their names have appeared.“The process is a bit time-consuming to check again and again, but I am doing that so that the voters do not panic. A total of 620 forms were submitted to me by electors under my booth during the enumeration phase,” he said.Another BLO, Abhay Jha, said that he is getting more in-person visits by electors to check their names in the draft than phone calls. “I am not getting many phone calls, but getting in-person visits. Although the Election Commission has provided facilities to check the draft online, electors are not aware of that,” Jha said.Jha added that he has also received some calls from electors asking to enrol their children in the voter list who have just turned 18. “I advised them to fill Form 6 and submit with relevant documents for inclusion,” he said.BLO Pradeep Kerketta also reported getting a steady flow of voters to check their names in the draft. “There is a lack of awareness among the public that they can check the draft at their fingertips, resulting in them visiting the booth to check the names,” he said.
