Ranchi: A 40-year-old land dealer was allegedly shot dead while coming out of a temple at Pandra on the city outskirts on Tuesday, police said. The deceased was identified as Bharghav Singh.Police said that Singh was coming out of the temple after offering prayers at around 8:30 am when an assailant shot at him from point-blank range and fled.Locals rushed him to hospital where the victim succumbed to his injuries. The spot is near the OTC ground close to the residence of Union minister of state for defence Sanjay Seth.In response to the incident, Seth, who is also Ranchi MP, said, “I was holding a ‘Janata Durbar’ when I got information about the incident. I rushed to the spot and took steps for creating a green corridor to send the victim to hospital.”He alleged that police patrolling is hardly being carried out in the area, adding that there is no fear of police among criminals. Additional superintendent of police Nikhil Rai stated, “Prima facie it seems a land dispute maybe behind the shooting. A prime suspect has been traced and detained. He is being questioned in connection with the incident.”Sources said that Singh was embroiled in a land dispute with Vijay Tete and they had also clashed with each other a few days back.After he was shot, Singh told police about the land dispute with Tete, a resident of Gandhinagar in Kanke area. Singh also said that in the past Tete had threatened to shoot him.
