Ranchi: Mayor Roshni Khalkho on Tuesday reviewed preparations for Karam Puja, scheduled for Sep 22, and directed civic officials to ensure adequate sanitation, lighting, road, drainage and health facilities at puja venues and akhara premises across the city.Khalkho asked all RMC departments to work in coordination with puja committees and ward councillors to identify local requirements and address them before the festival. “Our priority is to ensure that residents and puja committees do not face any inconvenience during the festival. All departments should work together and ensure the required arrangements in a time-bound manner,” she said.The sanitation wing was directed to conduct special cleaning drives at puja venues and akhara premises before the festival, including removal of grass and bushes and regular garbage collection. Two-shift cleaning arrangements will be made at akhara premises, while quick response teams will remain on alert in view of the rainfall.The engineering wing will undertake levelling of akhara premises and approach roads where required, besides repairing potholes and covering open drains with slabs. The electrical wing has been asked to repair faulty streetlights and ensure special lighting at akhara sites. Additional teams may be deployed beyond the 28 teams already formed for streetlight maintenance.The health wing will conduct regular fogging and arrange dog-catching operations where required. Water tankers and mobile toilets will also be deployed at crowded locations based on requirement.Khalkho appealed to residents to keep the city clean during the festival. “People should not throw waste on roads or public places and should use designated dustbins. Puja committees should coordinate with the corporation and ward councillors to resolve any local issues,” she added.
