Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) will set up dedicated revenue collection camps in every ward from Oct to enable residents to pay their taxes closer to home, officials said.The move comes after the contract of the private agency handling revenue collection expired, bringing the process back under the civic body’s direct control.Municipal commissioner Sushant Gaurav has directed revenue officials to identify the top 500 defaulters in each ward every month and launch focused recovery drives.A review meeting was held on Friday to finalise the operational strategy, set ward-wise targets, assess tax recovery and take steps to strengthen the corporation’s internal revenue base.“Following the end of the agency’s contract, the responsibility for revenue collection must now be carried out effectively at the municipal level. Increasing internal revenue is essential to make the corporation financially strong and self-reliant,” Gaurav said.He directed tax collectors, revenue inspectors and municipal managers to prepare target-based action plans for their respective zones. Priority areas will include recovery of outstanding holding tax, assessment and reassessment of new buildings and structures, and trade licence-related work.Officials have also been asked to assess the revenue potential of each locality and align field operations with fixed targets. Gaurav warned that laxity in tax collection would not be tolerated. Revenue performance will be reviewed regularly, with follow-up action based on area-wise progress.The commissioner also ordered a review of trade licences issued to commercial establishments operating on govt land. Officials have been directed to inspect such units under the existing rules and take action, including cancellation of licences, against those found violating norms.In addition, RMC will prepare a separate action plan to recover long-pending rent from corporation-owned shops. Officials have been asked to update records of outstanding rent and initiate recovery from defaulting tenants to improve the civic body’s finances.
