Mumbai: Bombay high court has released a road rage assault accused on bail for 11 days so that he can guide his daughters on taking a decision regarding their academic careers.“The twin daughters, who are at a crucial juncture of their academic career, certainly require guidance from their father, who is also an engineer. At this time, the twin daughters would also require financial assistance,” said Justice Sandesh Patil on Thursday. The 47-year-old had moved the vacation court seeking 30 days of interim bail in connection with a March 13 FIR lodged by Borivli police based on a complaint by the wife of a 54-year-old businessman. While the businessman was returning home after dropping his wife at her office in Borivli West on March 11, the accused, who was riding a two-wheeler, came in front of his car. He honked and the rider got angry. He abused the businessman, assaulted him and pushed him, resulting in a fall on the road and a head injury. He underwent brain surgery. Borivli police booked the rider for voluntarily causing hurt and an act endangering life. The accused’s advocate said he has been in custody since March 23. During this period, the results of his daughters’ JEE (Mains) 2026 exams came out—one scored 99.89% and the other 99.68%. The advocate said they will be appearing for JEE (Advanced) exams. They have also registered for BITSAT 2026, an entrance exam of BITS Pilani, scheduled from May 24-26. The advocate said this is the time they have to take a decision regarding their careers and the guidance of their father is necessary, including financial assistance. Also, if bail is not granted, “then the innocent twin daughters, who have got a brilliant academic record, would suffer”, said the advocate. The victim’s advocate said his client lost his eyesight, is hospitalised and his condition is quite precarious. He urged HC not to show any leniency as the accused had committed a gruesome offence. The bail application, said the advocate, was just an attempt to get out of jail.Justice Patil, taking into consideration the “uncontroverted” submission regarding the applicant’s twin daughters’ high scores in JEE (Mains), said, “They surely have got a brilliant career and, therefore, their career should not be hampered because of the absence of their father.” He said he was “inclined to release the applicant for some time”.He directed the accused’s release from May 16-26 on a personal bond of Rs 20,000 with one or two sureties in the like amount. Till the sureties are submitted, he shall be released on Rs 1 lakh cash bail. His bail conditions include residing within Malad police station’s jurisdiction and submitting daily attendance. He shall “surrender immediately’’ on May 27 in jail and “shall not seek any further extension”, said Justice Patil.
