Kolkata: Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) hosted the ‘Balagarh Roadshow’ on Wednesday. The event showcased port investment opportunities—centred on the state’s planned extended port gate system at Balagarh—to major trade partners, including the Adani Group and JSW Infrastructure.Speaking at the event, CM’s adviser Subrata Gupta said environmental clearance has already been obtained for the project, which will boost Bengal’s trade initiatives, especially given greater coordination between state and Centre.PM Narendra Modi recently laid the foundation stone for the IWT Terminal and road overbridge at Balagarh.SMPK chairman Rathendra Raman said the Balagarh project will decongest the Kolkata Dock System (KDS).The project cost is Rs 538.2 crore, with a capacity of 2.7 MTPA, and the project is located 85 km upstream of KDS on National Waterway-1.
