Simplify procedures, protect homebuyers’ interests, CM directs RERA

Patna: CM Samrat Choudhary on Saturday directed the Bihar Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) to simplify procedures, enhance transparency and accountability, and adopt greater use of technology to make services more efficient and investor-friendly.Reviewing RERA’s functioning at the Sankalp auditorium in Lok Sevak Awas, the CM said promoters and developers should be able to operate with greater ease within the regulatory framework, while ensuring full protection of homebuyers’ interests. He stressed that ease of doing business in the real estate sector must go hand-in-hand with a robust and responsive grievance-redressal mechanism.RERA chairperson Vivek Kumar Singh briefed the chief minister on the authority’s structure and functioning. He said the regulator had adopted transparent procedures and claimed its institutional framework was among the best in the country.Choudhary directed officials to further streamline processes and make them technology-driven. He asked them to integrate RERA’s operations with the state govt’s dashboard and digital platforms to enable real-time monitoring of pending cases, complaint disposal and other key activities.The CM said safeguarding homebuyers’ rights should remain the central focus of reforms in the real estate sector. Complaints, he said, should be handled with sensitivity and resolved in a transparent and time-bound manner.He also called for eliminating unnecessary delays in approvals and related procedures to boost confidence among developers and investors while maintaining regulatory oversight.The review meeting was attended by principal secretary to the CM Deepak Kumar, development commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh, urban development and housing department principal secretary Vinay Kumar, secretaries to the CM Lokesh Kumar Singh and Sanjay Kumar Singh, along with senior RERA officials.
