Sasaram: Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) sleuths on Friday arrested a senior cooperative officer while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs10,000 from a PACS chairman.This is the 44th trap of corrupt officers in the state in 2026, according to director general (VIB) J S Gangwar.The operation was carried out in Rajpur block under leadership of DSP Akhilesh Kumar Singh. The accused, Janardan Kumar, was caught while taking the bribe near a hospital under Rajpur police station area, an official said.The action followed a complaint by Prashant Kumar, who alleged that the officer had demanded the bribe for submitting a favourable physical verification report related to paddy procurement. After verifying the complaint, the VIB team laid a trap and arrested the accused after he accepted the money.A subsequent search was conducted at his rented residence in Takiya locality of Sasaram, but no incriminating items or cash were recovered. The arrested official will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna after interrogation, the official added.
