State to draft Vision-2047 for infrastructure expansion

Kolkata: The state will prepare a ‘Vision-2047’ document for Greater Kolkata Metropolitan Region for urban expansion and long-term infrastructure planning, including elevated urban corridors and economic growth in MKA and its immediate influence areas for the next 20 years.KMDA is inviting consultancy proposals to finetune the infrastructure upgrade plans, such as developing a Kolkata Metropolitan Ring Road for long-distance traffic to bypass the congested city centre.An officials said KMDA had prepared an initial draft, with consultation of various departments, central and other infrastructure agencies and development authorities. “The final Vision-2047 document will give a clear idea on the future metropolitan structure, keeping the next 20 years in mind,” the official said.Officials said that the study area would comprise Greater Kolkata, including KMA and New Town, now considered a core part of the Greater Kolkata Metropolitan region. The immediate influence area surrounding KMA, parts of Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia and North and South 24 Parganas over 5,200 sq km will be defined as ‘Greater Kolkata Metropolitan Region’ in the document.
