SUV catches fire near Delhi's Safdarjung hospital; no injuries

NEW DELHI: In a narrow escape, two people escaped unharmed after an SUV caught fire opposite Safdarjung Hospital in south Delhi on Saturday evening.According to police, the fire broke out around 10.30 pm while the vehicle was moving on Ring Road. The driver and the owner noticed smoke coming from the engine and immediately got out. Within minutes, the smoke intensified and the vehicle was engulfed in flames.The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) was alerted promptly, and a fire tender rushed to the spot. Firefighters brought the blaze under control shortly after. No injuries were reported.A video of the incident surfaced on Sunday morning, showing the vehicle completely engulfed in flames on a busy road at night. Thick black smoke can be seen billowing from the SUV as traffic continues to move on the opposite carriageway. Firefighters are seen deploying hoses to douse the blaze, which eventually comes under control, leaving the vehicle gutted with extensive damage to its engine bay, cabin and structure.In a similar incident earlier this week, a moving cab caught fire at Azadpur flyover on Thursday afternoon. The DFS received a call around 1.10 pm and dispatched a fire tender, which doused the blaze by 1.35 pm.All occupants of the cab — driver Dishad Ahmed, a woman identified as Laxmi, and her two children — were safely evacuated with the help of beat constables from Adarsh Nagar police station.Police also cleared the area to prevent any untoward incident and retrieved the occupants’ belongings from the vehicle, returning them safely.\
