CHENNAI: The state highways and small ports department has announced ambitious plans to construct a sea-link corridor from Ennore via Mamallapuram to Puducherry covering a stretch of 200km. The department parallelly will also explore feasibility to launch commuter boating service on the same route in coordination with Union ministry of shipping, ports and waterways, and the Puducherry govt.These announcements were made by PWD, highways and minor ports minister Aadhav Arjuna in the assembly on Tuesday.He said the initiative would develop tourism, commuter travel and improve industrial connection between ports. “The sea-link corridor feasibility was taken up during 2025-26 but the work saw no progress. We want to push this work,” he said, adding that the work will benefit the state for the next 100 years.Besides, the highways department also announced an elevated corridor from Light House in Santhome to Thiru Vi Ka Bridge in Adyar. The corridor will pass through Marina Loop Road, Adyar river and end near Thiru Vi Ka bridge.Aadhav said the stretch has several schools, places of worship and high pedestrian movement. “The scope of widening the road is less. Hence, an elevated corridor,” he said.
