New Delhi: Three FIRs have been registered against protesters for allegedly violating prohibitory orders imposed under Section 163 of BNSS during protests in and around Jantar Mantar on Friday. Two FIRs were registered at Parliament Street police station, while the third was registered at Connaught Place police station.In the FIR, police have mentioned the protests and the obstructions that were caused. Cops did not confirm whether anyone was named in the suspect column.Police sources said the FIRs were registered under Section 223 of BNS, which deals with disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant, along with provisions relating to obstruction of public servants. Police had detained around 550 people from in and around Jantar Mantar and initiated legal action against them.Section 163, which will remain in force until Oct 21, prohibits public meetings or assemblies of five or more people, processions, demonstrations, picketing and dharnas, as well as shouting slogans or making speeches.The order also prohibits carrying firearms, banners, placards, lathis, swords, sticks, brickbats or similar articles in the restricted area.“Citizens, visitors and all stakeholders are advised to strictly comply with the order and refrain from any unauthorised gathering or prohibited activity. Violation shall invite legal action under Section 223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of BNS,” a police statement said.On Friday, police had said no permission had been granted for the protest. Multiple layers of barricading were put in place around Jantar Mantar, including on Tolstoy Marg, Janpath Road, Kerala Bhavan, Ashoka Road and Sansad Marg. Police personnel were deployed at key entry and exit points to prevent protesters from entering the area.A senior police officer said no fresh FIR had been registered on Saturday in connection with the protest. The security arrangements remained unchanged, with Delhi Police personnel and CAPF companies deployed in and around Jantar Mantar to prevent protesters from entering the restricted area.
