Three men tie up, threaten & rob disabled elderly woman of 25 soverigns of gold jewllery at gunpoint near Mudichur in Chennai

Chennai: A partially paralysed elderly woman was tied up and threatened at knifepoint by unidentified men who decamped with gold jewellery from her house at Varadarajapuram near Mudichur in the wee hours of Wednesday.Police said the victim, Kausalya, 65, stayed with her son Padmanaban, his wife Indhumathi and their 11-year-old son at Rayappan Nagar. Indhumathi had taken their son to her parents’ home recently for summer holidays.On Tuesday night, Padmanaban left for his night shift job at a company in Sriperumbudur. When he returned around 8am the next day, he found the front door broken open and his mother on the bed crying.Kausalya said three men broke into the house around 1.30am. They threatened her with a knife, snatched the jewellery she was wearing, and broke open cupboards in two bedrooms, stealing gold ornaments of about 25 sovereigns and her mobile phone. They also tied her hands behind her back before fleeing the scene.Following a complaint, Somangalam police initiated inquiry. Police said the family had earlier pledged their gold ornaments at a bank and had only redeemed it recently.
