Jamshedpur: An accident was averted on the Tatanagar-Howrah route on Sunday after the loco pilot of Steel Express (12814) applied emergency brakes on spotting a snapped overhead equipment (OHE) wire hanging above the train near Chandarekha village in East Singhbhum district. The train, running on the up line, halted on a railway bridge over the Subarnarekha. Railway officials said teams from the traction rolling distribution wing, along with track maintenance staff from Kharagpur and Tatanagar, reached the spot and repaired the fault. Services on the section were disrupted for nearly 90 minutes before normal operations resumed. No casualties or injuries were reported. Passengers claimed they heard a loud sound and saw sparks, but railway officials denied that the wire fell on the train’s roof. The senior DRM, Kharagpur, could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
