Agartala: Tripura CM Manik Saha held a late-night review meeting on Saturday, soon after returning from Delhi, amid widespread protests over high electricity bills, smart meter installation and frequent power outages.The protests were triggered by complaints of exorbitant electricity bills and recurring outages following the installation of smart meters. Several offices of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) witnessed demonstrations as public anger mounted.Consumers, backed by opposition parties, alleged that TSECL was levying hefty charges, including fixed fees, meter rentals and fuel costs, in addition to energy consumption fees. They claimed consumers were being billed Rs 300-500 per month even with zero power consumption.After returning to the state, Saha convened a meeting with power minister Ratan Lal Nath, TSECL officials and secretaries to review the situation. He directed TSECL to adopt a proactive and customer-centered approach and ensure prompt redressal of public grievances.Sources said the utility has been asked to improve its customer service, boost communication with consumers and take corrective steps to resolve the power supply issues.
