Agartala: Tripura chief minister Dr Manik Saha said a pilot project to modernise border fencing is underway and stressed the need for enhanced cooperation between BSF and state govt to tackle issues impacting border communities.Saha sought a systematic coordination framework to promote information sharing among BSF, district administration, police, and state govt. “A pilot project for modern fencing is underway in Sepahijala district. It is essential for us to grasp the challenges faced by individuals residing near the border while improving collaboration with the state govt,” he said.He noted BSF recognises many developments along the international border, but these may not always be communicated promptly to state govt. Given Tripura’s 856-kilometre border with Bangladesh, Saha emphasised the need for a robust information-sharing system.“I proposed establishing a coordination committee to facilitate information flow from district to state level. Matters concerning BSF can then be addressed with relevant officials. Police will also participate to ensure a comprehensive understanding of border events,” he added.As chief minister managing the home portfolio, Saha reiterated that fortifying security is a priority, noting the ongoing modern fencing project would help close existing gaps.“We are committed to enhancing border security. Currently, there are three layers of security provided by BSF, Tripura State Rifles, and Tripura Police. Improved coordination and consistent monitoring are essential to identify and effectively resolve gaps,” he said.Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on national security, Saha said there will be no compromise on border security measures. “Issues related to the border have persisted for many years. We remain optimistic that current efforts will conclude promptly and challenges will be resolved,” he said.
