New Delhi: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk Thursday appealed to Centre to honour the commitments made to him and CJP, saying doing so would instil confidence among the country’s youth.CJP said that discussions with Centre on receiving a written agreement incorporating the assurances reached during the July 25 talks were still underway and that it remained hopeful of an early resolution.In a video message while travelling to Ladakh, Wangchuk said he had travelled on the Vande Bharat train from Delhi to Srinagar for the first time and described it as a “beautiful journey”, adding that he was proud of the Indian Railways. He said he would proceed to Ladakh after a brief halt in Kashmir.Wangchuk also welcomed the passage of the bill on examination reforms in Parliament, but said reforms should extend to the entire education system.“I want to appeal to govt to honour the agreements made with me and CJP in writing — that no action will be taken against students who participated in the protests and that no FIRs will be lodged against them. Please stick to those commitments and create an atmosphere of trust in the country, especially among the youth,” he said.CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka told TOI that talks with Centre over the written agreement were still continuing. “We are hoping for a resolution soon,” he said.Sharing an update on the withdrawal of FIRs, CJP spokesperson Ratna Singh said Bihar authorities were following the legal process. “I have been informed that Bihar is following the due process prescribed under the law — first withdrawing the FIRs and then releasing the arrested individuals. It may take some time from govt’s end, but we are hopeful that every pending case will be addressed and everyone will be released through the due legal process,” she said.Addressing the media at his home in Maharashtra, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke alleged, “I have received a lot of threats to join BJP, saying it will be good for me and my family. I feel PM Modi and Amit Shah are so big… I am of their grandchild’s age. To threaten somebody of their grandchild’s age — what is the use of such a big stature if you have to threaten like this?”Responding to the charges, Delhi BJP media head Praveen Shankar Kapoor said, “Dipke has only proven us right that CJP is nothing but a extension counter of AAP. The language used by him is what has been used by Arvind Kejriwal all these years.”Meanwhile, security at Jantar Mantar has been beefed up amid CJP’s warning that it would resume its agitation on a larger scale if Centre fails to honour the commitments made during the July 25 talks and provide the promised written agreement.
