Ara: An attempt to mediate in a land dispute over two decimals proved fatal for 45-year-old ward member Ashok Singh, who was allegedly shot dead on Friday morning at Bhikhampur village under Chauri police station. His two nephews, Krishna Singh and Baliram Singh, were allegedly beaten with lathis and are undergoing treatment at Ara Sadar Hospital.Ashok, a resident of Bhikhampur, was member of ward number 11 of Diliya panchayat under Agiaon block. Chauri SHO Rakesh Kumar Singh said Ashok succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.The injured have been identified as Krishna, 52, and Baliram, 36. The SHO said, “Four people have been detained after the initial investigation by the police. Their interrogation is going on. However, only after the family members of the deceased lodge an FIR, the names of other accused will be known.”Krishna said, “The dispute is only over two decimal land between myself and some co-villagers. On Aug 10 too I was attacked with lathis. Today I was returning from Ara on a bike with my uncle and my brother when about seven to eight of my rivals attacked us near a village tree.”
