Weather tomorrow: More downpours in store as monsoon stays active; IMD warns of heavy rain in Delhi-NCR, several states

NEW DELHI: Heavy rain is expected to continue across several parts of the country on Friday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of north, central and east India.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely in several regions as the southwest monsoon remains active.

IMD alert for Friday

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Bihar, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.Heavy rainfall is also likely in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal and Sikkim.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected over parts of the Northeast and Uttarakhand, while thunderstorms with gusty winds are likely in Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Delhi-NCR weather tomorrow

Delhi-NCR is likely to receive another spell of rain, with the IMD issuing a heavy rainfall alert for Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.Intermittent showers and thunderstorms may affect commuting and lead to waterlogging in vulnerable areas.

North India forecast

Heavy rain is expected to continue over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, while parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are also likely to receive widespread rainfall.Uttarakhand remains under a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning.

East India forecast

Bihar is among the states under a heavy to very heavy rainfall alert.Jharkhand and Odisha are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, with rain continuing in many areas.

Northeast India forecast

Rainfall activity is expected to remain vigorous across the Northeast. Heavy rain is likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, with thunderstorms and lightning also forecast in several places.

Central and southern India forecast

Parts of Madhya Pradesh are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while thunderstorms are expected in Karnataka, Telangana and Rayalaseema. Heavy rain is also forecast in parts of Tamil Nadu.

Monsoon update

The southwest monsoon is expected to advance further over the next two to three days.According to the IMD, conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to cover the remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab, completing its advance across the country.

IMD’s latest forecast

The weather office has said active monsoon conditions are likely to persist over much of the country over the next three to four days.Heavy rainfall is expected to continue over parts of north, central, eastern and northeastern India, while thunderstorms and lightning are likely in several states.People in areas under heavy rain alerts have been advised to remain cautious, especially in places prone to waterlogging and localised flooding.
