Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata is set to complete the Rs 10-crore restoration of Kumartuli Ghat by Durga Puja this year, with funding support from Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd under its CSR partnership. The project covers the 300m riverfront from Kumartuli Ghat to Champatala Ghat, strengthening bank protection, restoring heritage ghat structures, temples and shrines, and improving safe public access to the Hooghly.New walkways, ritual platforms, artisan zones, viewing decks, lighting, toilets, first aid and surveillance facilities will enhance visitor convenience. The restored precinct will support idol-makers, devotees and residents while preserving Kolkata’s cultural connection with Durga Puja and its historic riverside community life traditions. tnn
