Hazaribag: A 15-year-old girl was killed after a dilapidated asbestos roof sheet collapsed on her at Baratand village under Barhi East Panchayat in Barhi block of Hazaribag district late on Monday night, police said on Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Manisha Kumari. According to villagers, the incident occurred when a goat climbed onto the asbestos roof of a veranda used as a kitchen. As family members tried to drive the animal away, the rain-weakened sheet crashed down on the teenager, leaving her critically injured. She was rushed to Barhi sub-divisional hospital, where doctors declared her dead.Barhi police station OC Vinod Kumar said, “The body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem.”Locals said around 18 members were living in a nearly 50-year-old dilapidated house. Owing to a lack of space, the family had constructed an asbestos-sheet veranda and converted it into a kitchen, where the fatal accident occurred.Locals have urged the administration to provide the family with a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or Abua Awas Yojana, besides extending financial assistance under disaster relief provisions.
