Patna: A 19-year-old college student died under suspicious circumstances after he was found unconscious and injured by the roadside under Bangra police station area in Samastipur district on Saturday evening. The incident triggered a road blockade by angry villagers who demanded identification and arrest of those responsible.The deceased was identified as Avinash Kumar, a BA Part-I student and resident of Dumri Kothia village. He was initially taken to a referral hospital and later shifted to Sadar Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). However, he died on the way near Mahua.Tension gripped the area on Sunday morning after news of his death reached the village. Residents blocked the Tajpur-Mahua road at Kothia Chowk for nearly four hours, placing the body on the road and demanding action against those responsible.According to family members, Avinash had gone to attend a Chhathi feast in the village on Saturday evening and was expected to return home later that night.His grandmother, Aarti Devi, said the family called him when he did not return home by around 10pm. During the conversation, he allegedly told them that a villager, identified as Harendra, was stopping him and that he would return after some time. However, he never reached home.Family members said injury marks were visible near Avinash’s right eye and blood was found on his body, leading them to suspect that he had been assaulted before being left by the roadside.They claimed that Avinash had no known enmity with anyone and was focused on his studies. Villagers demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to his death.Bangra additional SHO ShabanaAzmi said a police patrol team found the youth unconscious and injured by the roadside and immediately shifted him to a hospital. “The youth was found injured on the roadside. He was taken to hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” she said.The officer said an injury was visible near Avinash’s right eye. Since he was unconscious when police found him, his statement could not be recorded. An FIR has been registered against unknown persons on the basis of complaints lodged by the family, and further investigation is underway.
