Begusarai: Police arrested one of the three named accused within hours of the murder of a 70-year-old man who was shot dead at his farm hut in Makkhachak village under Bakhri police station area in Begusarai district on Saturday evening.The deceased, identified as LaloMahto, was sitting at the hut with his brother, VishnudevMahto, when the attackers allegedly approached them on the pretext of seeking drinking water.Bakhri SDPO KundanKumar said on Sunday that, according to the complaint lodged by Vishnudev, the assailants first engaged Lalo Mahto in conversation and then suddenly pulled out a pistol and shot him.Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR against three named persons, including ManojMahto. “Manoj Mahto was arrested within hours of the crime,” the SDPO said, adding that efforts were on to apprehend the remaining accused.According to the complainant, Lalo Mahto had been involved in a long-standing dispute with some villagers, and the murder was allegedly a fallout of that rivalry. Police are investigating the case and examining the role of the other accused.
