Bokaro: Two point of sale (PoS) agents were arrested for allegedly supplying more than 180 SIM cards to cybercriminals in violation of telecom regulations, police said on Wednesday.The arrests were made in connection with a case registered at the Cyber police station. ASP (Chas), Vedant Shankar, said the accused — Pradeep Das, 27, and Mukesh Gope, 20 — are both residents of Chandankiyari.Police said Das supplied more than 140 SIM cards between July and Aug, while Gope supplied 42. The duo allegedly collected the Aadhaar details and fingerprints of other people to activate the SIM cards, which were then handed over to Pamit Mahatha of Sabra under Siyaljori police station limits, Rahul Kumar of Deoghar and Vivek Chaudhary of Santhaldih in West Bengal.“The accused allegedly received Rs 800 for each SIM card,” Shankar said.Police said the SIM cards were used to create fraudulent accounts and make calls to dupe people. The proceeds were allegedly shared among members of the network.A smartphone with two SIM cards was seized from Das. Police also recovered another phone fitted with two SIM cards.A case has been registered under relevant sections of BNS, the IT Act and the Telecom Act.Police said their cybercrime crackdown would target not only fraudsters but also those allegedly providing infrastructure — including illegally activated SIM cards — for such crimes.
