3 knife-wielding robbers strike bizman in Navi Mumbai, flee with 41L gold jewellery

Navi Mumbai: Three unidentified men, one of them armed with a knife, waylaid a businessman on the street while he was walking towards his residence in Sector 12, Kharghar, and slashed his forearm with the knife, robbing him of his Rs 40.60 lakh worth of gold ornaments that he was carrying in a bag on Friday past midnight around 12.30am. The businessman, Sushant More, 41, was accompanied by his chauffeur Mahesh Hatey and a friend, Abhinandan, who were also assaulted by the robbers with fist blows when they attempted to fight the robbers. The robbers snatched the bag containing gold ornaments and escaped riding triple-seat on a bike. Acting on a complaint by the victim businessman, the Kharghar police registered an FIR under BNS sections for the offence of voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery and common intention.API Pradip Avhad of Kharghar said that as per the complainant, on April 23, More was accompanied by his friend Abhinandan when around 12.30 am, More’s chauffeur Mahesh Hatey parked the car near his building, Shivam Society, F-Lane, in Sector 12, Kharghar, and they walked towards the building. More was carrying a bag containing his gold ornaments worth Rs 40.60 lakh. While they were walking towards the building, three men lying in wait intercepted them. One of them brandished a knife and threatening to harm them, telling More to hand over the bag. As More refused, the robber slashed his hand with a knife and snatched his bag containing gold ornaments. Hatey and Abhinandan attempted to fight the robbers, but they were also assaulted.“We have obtained CCTV camera footage from the vicinity. The three robbers fleeing on a bike were captured in the footage. However, the image is not clearly visible as the CCTV cameras are not night-vision compatible. It seems like the robbers kept a watch on the movement of the complainant and, targeting him, decamped with a huge booty. A special police team has been formed to gather technical evidence, and informer network has been activated to get leads for identifying the three robbers,” said API Avhad.
