Bokaro: Seven members of a family from Jharghatta village under the Gandey police station limits in Giridih district fell ill and had to be hospitalised on Monday after eating wild mushrooms, officials said.Quoting the family members, a doctor attending to the sick at the Giridih sadar hospital, said, “The mushrooms had been given to them by a neighbour and were cooked for breakfast. Within minutes of consuming the dish, seven started vomiting and felt weak.”The patients have been identified as Neha Kumari, Tuktuk Kumari, Krishna Goswami, Dashrath Goswami, Geeta Devi, Vishal Goswami, and another member.Their condition was reportedly stable after being administered fluids and medicines, hospital sources said.Urging residents not to consume unidentified wild mushrooms, Giridih civil surgeon Baccha Prasad Singh said, “Several poisonous varieties appear in fields and forested areas, especially during the monsoon. Toxic mushrooms can trigger serious complications.”Advising people to eat only properly identified food items, Bokaro food safety officer Mohammad Ehsan Alam said, “Some seasonal species can cause food poisoning, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, and other health problems. Seek immediate medical help if symptoms develop after consuming mushrooms,” adding that “awareness drives may be conducted in rural areas during the rainy season.”
