New Delhi: A 70-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted at her home in central Delhi’s Ranjit Nagar by a man who had earlier visited the house for water. He has been arrested.Police said on Wednesday that the 27-year-old accused had first come to the woman’s house on April 9 seeking water and, upon noticing that she was alone, returned two days later to commit the crime. He allegedly forced his way into the house and physically assaulted the woman before raping her.A PCR call initially reported just the physical assault. A police team took the woman to hospital, where her medico-legal examination (MLC) confirmed the assault. A case was registered for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.The sexual assault angle surfaced the following day when the survivor’s daughter informed police about it. DCP (central) Rohit Rajbir Singh said, “The woman was subsequently taken for a second medical examination, which confirmed sexual assault, following which additional sections were added.”Police examined CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and spotted a suspicious man entering and exiting the survivor’s house around the time of the incident. Using multiple CCTV inputs, technical surveillance and local intelligence, investigators tracked the suspect. He was identified as Mukesh, a resident of Baljeet Nagar, and was arrested on April 13 from east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar.The accused allegedly admitted to visiting the woman’s house earlier and returning after finding her alone. He added that he had forcibly entered the house, and assaulted and raped her. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
