Mumbai: An eight-year-old girl was killed in a road crash involving a cement mixer in Sakinaka recently. The girl was seated pillion on her father’s motorcycle when the cement mixer brushed the two-wheeler, police said.Aahana Shaikh, the victim, lived with her parents and two siblings at Powai. Four days before the road crash, she had gone to stay at her aunt’s place in Sakinaka.On May 15, Aahana’s father, Mohammad Rafi, went to pick her up from her aunt’s place on his bike. Mohammad Rafi works as an AC mechanic. While the duo was headed home after 5 pm, a cement mixer suddenly drove by very close to them. The driver of the cement mixer swerved to the left. Mohammad Rafi applied the brakes but the cement mixer brushed the two-wheeler. Due to the impact, Aahana was thrown off to the right while Mohammad Rafi fell to the left.The cement mixer ran over Aahana. Mohammad Rafi cried for help and passersby got the cement mixer’s driver to halt. The driver, later identified as Siraj-ul-Islam, stepped down.Aahana had suffered serious injuries in the crash and was bleeding profusely. Police was informed and she was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital. But she succumbed to her injuries.Sakinaka police registered an FIR against Siraj-ul-Islam for negligence and rash driving.
