Chennai: In the second major crackdown in two weeks, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in co-ordination with the Telangana police, busted another attempt to smuggle 465kg ganja worth 2.32 crore from Odisha to Tamil Nadu and arrested two key operatives.NCB sleuths of Chennai zone intercepted a container truck at Nallur plaza in Tiruvallur on Tuesday. The contraband was hidden in a custom-built false ceiling and in cavities at the bottom of the vehicle. Two men, natives of Odisha and Bihar, were arrested and a hunt has been launched for the network’s mastermind and the vehicle owner, currently traced to Odisha.NCB officials said that the contraband was trafficked from Malkangiri, Odisha, to be delivered to a Madurai-based receiver. Further investigation is underway to identify the remaining members of the syndicate, trace financial transactions, and dismantle the interstate network involved in the operation.On May 1, NCB team seized 717kg ganja and a container truck from a gang of four in Tuticorin and arrested them. This year, NCB Chennai has seized about 2,892.35kg of ganja, 87.64kg of hashish oil, and 1.045kg of amphetamine, worth about a total of 21.1 crore, and arrested 14 individuals.
