Wanted Samastipur criminal shot dead in Uttar Pradesh

Patna: Notorious criminal Lallan Singh alias Lalan, a native of Samastipur district, was killed in an exchange of fire with police in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday night. He was carrying a combined reward of Rs 1.25 lakh and wanted in the murder of seven people, including two sub-inspectors, a bank cashier and a security guard, in Bihar and UP. He also faced multiple cases of dacoity and bank and ATM cash van loot.According to police, a UP STF team led by additional SP Lal Pratap Singh was conducting a checking drive on the Sarsawa–Nakur Road on Sunday night when two men on a bike approached. When signalled to stop, they opened fire on the police.In retaliatory firing, Lallan was shot and injured. He was first taken to a CHC and later referred to the district hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead. His accomplice managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Police are conducting raids to nab him.Additional director general of police (UP STF, law and order) Amitabh Yash said Lalan Singh sustained gunshot injuries during an encounter with a police team led by additional SP Lal Pratap Singh on the intervening night of June 21-22 on the Sarsawa-Nakur Road in Saharanpur district.“Lallan was a resident of Anandgolwa village under Mohiuddinnagar police station in Samastipur. He was wanted by both UP and Bihar police. The Varanasi police commissionerate had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh, while Chandauli police had announced Rs 25,000 on him,” he said.On Nov 8, 2022, Lallan shot dead a sub-inspector in Varanasi and looted his service pistol. On November 1, 2022, he shot a youth in Chandauli and snatched his bike. In Bihar, he was accused in the murder cases of two sub-inspectors, a bank cashier, a security guard and three others. Several cases of bank and cash van robberies were also registered against him.
