Patna: Fifty-eight-year-old Bhushan Singh, father of Delhi JD(U) functionary Nitish Kumar, was found murdered with bullet injuries in the Bhadaur police station area of Barh subdivision in Patna district on Thursday night. A native of Govindpur village in Nalanda, Bhushan was living in Bhadaur, where he was engaged in farming.According to police, Bhushan had gone to a milk collection centre on Thursday evening as part of his daily routine but did not return home. Later that night, his body was found in a pit. The family has accused some local strongmen of carrying out the murder.According to Nitish, when Bhushan did not return by 9pm and his phone remained unanswered, the family began searching for him. As Nitish was leaving for Delhi, he asked some local youths to look for his father. They later recovered Bhushan’s body from a pit.Nitish said bullet injuries were found on his father’s body and a towel had been tied around his neck like a noose. He alleged the assailants dragged the body before dumping it into the pit.Accusing some influential people in the village of the murder, Nitish said the family had been targeted ever since they built a new house and purchased land there.“There was no personal enmity with anyone. Some people in the village were jealous of our progress,” Nitish said.He further alleged that neighbours had repeatedly created disputes over the construction of their house, pelted stones at the property and even assaulted his mother. “We earn a living by doing water supply work,” he said.Bhushan is survived by his wife, two sons and four daughters.Police reached the spot after receiving information and sent the body to the subdivisional hospital in Barh for postmortem.Sub-inspector Ramnandan Raman of Bhadaur police station, who is investigating the case, said, “Information was received around 11.30pm on Thursday night. After getting information, the body was taken into custody and sent for postmortem. An FIR has been registered against around half a dozen persons according to the complaint filed by the deceased’s family. The incident is being investigated and further action is being taken.”
