CM meets slain officer’s widow, promises justice

Patna: CM Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday directed the Aurangabad district administration to ensure a speedy trial in the murder case of Dehri-Dalmianagar Municipal Council executive officer Vimal Kumar. The CM issued the directive after meeting the officer’s widow, Babita Kumari, at his official residence, Lok Sewak Awas, in Patna.Choudhary assured the bereaved family that justice would be delivered. “The strictest legal action will be taken against the culprits,” he said.Vimal Kumar was murdered on the night of Aug 1 while travelling from Dehri-on-Sone to Patna. The incident took place near Dhanauti Bridge under Barun police station area in Aurangabad district.Police initially suspected that unidentified armed miscreants had ambushed the officer. However, the investigation took a dramatic turn when Aurangabad police detained the victim’s driver, Mithilesh Kumar. During interrogation led by Magadh Range IG Vikas Vaibhav, the driver allegedly confessed to the crime.According to police, Mithilesh told investigators that he attacked the officer with an iron plumbing rod following a dispute over heavy workload and denial of leave. Based on his statement, police divers recovered the alleged murder weapon from a nearby canal.The case has sparked political controversy, with the officer’s widow alleging a larger conspiracy behind the murder. She claimed that an MLA had been harassing her husband and demanding extortion money ranging from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. However, the MLA has denied the allegations and welcomed an investigation.Meanwhile, municipal executive officers across Bihar have launched an indefinite strike, demanding enhanced security, fast-track judicial proceedings in the case and adequate compensation for the deceased officer’s family.
