Patna: Chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Sunday said the state govt would consider amendments in the law related to organ donation, if required, in consultation with Dadhichi Dehdaan Samiti, an organisation promoting organ donation in the state.Addressing a programme organised by the Samiti at the Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries premises to mark the 4th National Organ Donation Day and the 12th International Organ Donation Day, Choudhary said the govt would cooperate with Samiti members to spread awareness in district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals and medical colleges.He said that while people have information about organ donation, they do not come forward. At the time of death, families become emotional, making it difficult to decide, he said, stressing that awareness and inspiration must be built in advance.Choudhary said that after death, no experience could be more humane than bringing happiness into another person’s life. Organ donation, he said, symbolises humanity, compassion and responsibility towards life. He called for a broad public awareness campaign to take the message of organ donation to every person.Appreciating the Samiti’s work, Choudhary congratulated its members and said steps would be taken to include it as a partner in Bihar’s health system. He said the govt wanted to use the campaign to help needy people through organ donation, adding that organ and eye donation could also support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Viksit Bharat” resolve.Recalling former deputy chief minister Sushil Modi’s long association with the Samiti, Choudhary said work in organ donation was carried out for years under his guidance and described his contribution as memorable.Choudhary presented mementos to Advocate General S D Sanjay, MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia, Patna Mayor Sita Sahu and IGIMS Deputy Director Dr Vibhuti Prasanna Sinha, among others, for remarkable work in the field of organ donation.
