Mumbai: Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday directed that action should be taken against food adulterators, including adulterators of milk and cheese, under organised crime laws like MCOCA.Shinde said milk and dairy product adulterators played with the health of citizens, and especially the lives of young children.“Children drink large amounts of milk. Fake cheese and adulterated food items can lead to serious diseases like cancer. Adulterators are directly playing with the lives of these children. Without showing any leniency towards the anti-social elements who commit such acts, such criminals should be taken to task under MCOCA and punished. While taking action against these adulterators, a non-bailable case should be registered against them, so that they do not get legal loopholes,” Shinde said.Shinde instructed officials to take special steps to strengthen the legal process in these cases. “No legal loophole should remain while the cases of those against whom action is being taken are going on in the court. For this, the help of renowned and senior legal experts should be taken and a special legal team should be formed immediately for this,” Shinde said.
