Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has launched a urban renewal initiative focused on conserving water resources, optimising the use of govt land, and enhancing civic amenities across the capital.During a site inspection on Wednesday covering Dhurwa, Jagannathpur, and Bandhgari, municipal commissioner Sushant Gaurav directed officials to prepare comprehensive action plans for local ponds and public spaces. “Waterbodies and state-owned land will no longer be treated as vacant plots, but rather as vital assets for urban ecology, public utility, and green cover,” he added. The revival framework expands traditional water conservation to encompass broader urban integration. The civic body plans to establish green zones, public facilities, and aesthetic upgrades around restored waterbodies to convert them into active community hubs. Measures are also being taken to curb encroachments, ensuring public land is utilised for public benefit. In Ward 38 Dhurwa area, the commissioner ordered a detailed blueprint incorporating boundary walls, paver blocks, pedestrian walkways, and beautification works around the local pond.Near the New Colony Jagannathpur Temple in Ward 37, officials were tasked with evaluating the feasibility of landscaping, tree plantation, dedicated parking, and night markets alongside the dual restoration of two ponds.Encroachments identified around the Jagannathpur site were scheduled to be razed. In Ward 06 of Bandhgari, the inspection team reviewed the local community hall, ward office, and a designated site for a new pond. Directions were issued to upgrade the community hall with modern amenities and high-mast lighting. Also, after identifying encroachments on a 2.02-acre plot of govt land in the area, Gaurav ordered immediate action to clear the site. The reclaimed land will be redeveloped to house a pond, a green belt, and elevated sanitation standards.
