Bokaro: Residents will get an opportunity to verify their names and personal details in the electoral roll on the occasion of Independence Day on Aug 15 when gram sabhas and public meetings will be organised across the district under the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026.“The exercise will allow voters to check for errors in their name, age, address or other details, while those whose names are missing from the draft roll can seek inclusion,” said Ajay Nath Jha, deputy commissioner, Bokaro.The exercise, being conducted on the directions of the Election Commission of India, is aimed at making the voter list more accurate, updated and error-free. In rural areas, the gram sabhas will be organised at respective panchayat buildings. In urban areas, meetings will be held at the polling stations.Booth-level officers (BLOs) will read aloud the names of all voters appearing in the draft electoral roll. This means residents can immediately check whether their name and details have been correctly included.“If an eligible Indian citizen’s name has been left out of the draft voter list, the person will be identified during the exercise and guided to seek enrolment. Those who will complete 18 years of age by Oct 1, 2026, can apply for inclusion in the electoral roll by submitting Form 6.,” said the DC.The Aug 15 meetings will provide an opportunity to check the draft electoral roll in advance and raise objections or seek corrections wherever necessary. “An accurate, updated and error-free electoral roll is the foundation of a strong democracy,” Jha said, appealing to citizens to participate actively in the SIR-2026 exercise.
