New Delhi: A woman constable’s alertness and split-second intervention saved the life of a 16-year-old girl who was trying to jump onto the metro tracks at Hauz Khas metro station. The girl was later reunited by police with her father, who is in BSF.On Saturday, constable Nikita spotted the teenager moving towards the tracks with an apparent intention to end her life. The constable rushed towards her and managed to restrain her.The officer immediately alerted the police station, following which the girl was taken to the Yellow Line station control room.Initially, the teenager was unwilling to share details about herself or her family, police said, adding that when the woman constable patiently spoke to her, reassured her and gradually managed to obtain information that helped police trace her family.DCP (metro) Anand Dabhi said, “The prompt, courageous and humane action of the woman constable is highly commendable. Her alertness, sensitivity and timely intervention prevented a potentially tragic incident and helped ensure the safe reunification of the minor with her family.”During the inquiry, police learnt that the girl had been undergoing treatment for a mental health-related condition at RML Hospital for around a year.
