Patna: CM Samrat Choudhary on Sunday said the state govt was seriously working towards its mission of providing one crore jobs and employment opportunities to youths over the next five years. He said the govt’s aim is to ensure that no one leaves Bihar in search of a livelihood.Addressing a mega job fair at Gyan Bhawan here, the CM said work was progressing rapidly to provide jobs and employment to one crore people in the next five years. Citing the govt’s commitment, he said the NDA govt had set a target in 2020 of providing govt jobs to 10 lakh people and employment to another 10 lakh, but had exceeded the target.The five-day job fair concluded on Sunday.“During this period, 11.5 lakh people were given govt jobs, while 51 lakh people were linked to employment opportunities,” he said, adding that efforts were being made at every level to boost industry, infrastructure and employment in Bihar. He said the state govt had requested the Centre to establish a World Trade Centre in Patna, which would help attract people from around the world to Bihar and create employment opportunities for local youth.Choudhary said 20,226 young men and women received employment opportunities during the job fair. Of these, 3,940 youths got jobs within Bihar, while 36 disabled people also received employment opportunities. Similarly, 476 youths were selected for jobs abroad. Congratulating the selected candidates, he said employment would bring a change in their lives.He announced that placement fairs would be organised in every district from next year. He said it was a matter of pride that Bihar’s youth were becoming skilled and securing employment, adding that their talent would be showcased not only in other states but also abroad.Earlier, paying homage to Pandit Raj Kumar Shukla and Ramchandra Vidyathi, whom he said had given a new direction to the country’s freedom movement, Choudhary said Bihar’s economy had strengthened due to better financial management by former CM Nitish Kumar and late Sushil Kumar Modi.“When Bihar and Jharkhand were united, Bihar’s budget used to be about Rs6,000 crore. Due to the financial management by Nitish and late Sushil Modi, the state’s economy has become quite strong. In 2024, Bihar’s budget was Rs3.47 lakh crore, while Jharkhand’s budget was only Rs1.39 lakh crore,” he said.He said Bihar had received about 30% less rainfall than normal this year. The state govt has therefore decided to ensure uninterrupted power supply for agricultural work from 6am to 6pm in the interest of farmers.Choudhary also reiterated that 6.42 lakh applications had been received under the ‘Sahyog Karyakram’, of which 96% had been disposed of.
