CHENNAI: Dairy Development minister Vijayalakshmi on Monday appealed to Speaker J C D Prabhakar to initiate action against DMK MLA Durai Chandrasekaran over his “disrespectful and derogatory” remarks against chief minister C Joseph Vijay and Industries minister Keerthana at a party programme.“This is highly condemnable. It is equally condemnable that the industries minister was spoken about disrespectfully despite being a woman,” she said, alleging that the DMK was making such remarks out of frustration over its electoral defeat and its inability to accept the new political situation.She was referring to the MLA’s speech at a wedding function of a DMK functionary in Thanjavur district on Sunday. DMK youth wing secretary and Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin was present on the dais.Speaker J C D Prabhakar said the water resources minister had met him in his office on Tuesday morning and brought the issue to his notice, asking whether the remarks amounted to a breach of privilege.“Even though the remarks were made outside the Assembly, if they affect the dignity of the House, the chief minister or the minister, I will read and examine them and take an appropriate decision on whether action needs to be taken,” the Speaker said.
