Dumka: Police have registered an FIR against 23 named and more than 500 unidentified individuals for alleged violence, damage to public property and obstruction of govt officials during clashes at Thandaradih village in Jamtara district on Saturday night, officers said on Monday.The FIR was lodged on the basis of a complaint filed by ASI Alam Ansari, who alleged that a mob obstructed official work and damaged govt property during the unrest.In a separate complaint, Thandaradih resident Padma Devi alleged that a large crowd gathered outside her house and vandalised a place of worship nearby. She also accused the crowd of removing a bell and two motor pumps and damaging the wall of a well on the premises.Padma alleged that when villagers protested, members of the crowd pelted stones and vandalised her house and that of another resident, Dhaneshwar Mahto.Police said the incident followed an exchange of allegedly objectionable social media posts by individuals from two communities. Tension escalated on Saturday night before police and administrative officials intervened and brought the situation under control.“An FIR against 23 named persons and more than 500 unidentified individuals has been lodged in connection with the clashes involving police personnel. We are also examining the allegations made in the separate complaint filed by Padma Devi,” Jamtara SDO (civil) Anant Kumar said.He said the situation in the area was under control.
