Patna: Chief minister Samrat Choudhary, accompanied by water resources department minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Patna and adjoining districts on Tuesday and directed officials to take all necessary measures to provide relief and assistance to affected people.The CM posted on social media that he assessed the flood situation during the aerial survey and instructed officials to take all possible steps to address the problems faced by affected residents.“It is our priority to reach relief materials and all necessary assistance to each and every person affected by the flood,” he said, adding that officials had been directed to conduct rescue and relief operations on a war footing and ensure necessary assistance to those affected.Meanwhile, rising waters of the Ganga and Kosi rivers continued to affect people living in areas along the two rivers in Patna, Vaishali, Begusarai, Khagaria, Munger and Bhagalpur districts.Ring bunds were breached in diara areas of Bhagalpur and Begusarai districts on Monday. The situation worsened on Tuesday in Shamho diara of Begusarai and villages in Rangra and Naugachhia blocks of Bhagalpur, according to local reports.The swollen Ganga, receiving additional water from the Sone, has pushed the rising water levels downstream of Hathidah in Patna district, particularly in Munger and Bhagalpur. The Central Water Commission has forecast that the Ganga’s water level will continue to rise over the next few days in the Munger-Bhagalpur-Kahalgaon stretch.The Ganga was flowing below the danger level at Buxar, while its water level showed a gradual decline at Digha and Gandhi Ghat in Patna and at Hathidah.The Sone’s discharge stood at 1.32 lakh cusecs, with its water level showing a rising trend. Meanwhile, discharge from the Birpur barrage on the Kosi stood at 1.34 lakh cusecs, down from 1.58 lakh cusecs recorded on Monday.
