Ramgarh/Dhanbad: Marking National Sports Day 2026, the Ramgarh administration on Saturday organised an open cross country competition under the aegis of the directorate of sports and youth affairs, with DC Rituraj not only flagging off the event but also joining the runners to encourage participants.The men’s race began from Patel Chowk, while the women’s category started from the Cantonment Football Ground. A large number of athletes took part in the competition.Stressing on the importance of sports for physical and mental development, Rituraj said, “The district administration is committed to providing better facilities and opportunities for young athletes.”National Sports Day was celebrated across Dhanbad on Saturday with sporting events and felicitation programmes aimed at encouraging athletes and promoting fitness, discipline and sportsmanship.The Dhanbad District Archery Association organised a special felicitation ceremony at Dhanbad Club to mark the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. Players who had delivered outstanding performances at the national, state and district levels were honoured for their achievements. Among those felicitated were badminton player Shruti Mishra and karate player Prachi Priya, who have performed notably in their respective disciplines.IIT(ISM) Dhanbad also celebrated National Sports Day and organised a marathon to spread awareness about fitness, hard work, discipline and sportsmanship. The event was conducted in four categories.A 5-km race was organised for students, while 2.5-km races were held separately for female students, male employees and their dependants, and female employees and their dependants.
