MUMBAI: Social activist Anna Hazare has been admitted to Bombay Hospital in Mumbai after his health deteriorated following a month-long bout of viral fever and recurring loose stools, a doctor told news agency ANI.Dr Gautam Bhansali, consultant physician and infectious disease specialist, said Hazare was admitted to the hospital on Monday night and is currently under his care.Hazare had earlier been receiving treatment at a hospital in Shirur, near Ralegan Siddhi.However, doctors decided to shift him to Bombay Hospital for further evaluation after his infection worsened and showed signs of beginning to affect his kidneys.“He had been suffering from a viral fever for about a month and had also experienced bouts of loose stools,” Bhansali said.The doctor said Hazare had been in and out of the Shirur hospital during this period. Following a slight worsening of the infection and concerns over its possible impact on his kidneys, he was brought to Bombay Hospital for detailed investigations and treatment.“Consequently, he had been in and out of the hospital in Shirur. When the infection worsened slightly—and there were indications that it was beginning to affect his kidneys—it was decided to move him to Bombay Hospital for further testing, “the doctor said.At the time of admission, Hazare was stable, although he was experiencing weakness and fatigue. He has since been started on appropriate treatment and is showing significant improvement, the doctor said.“At the time of admission, he was completely stable, though he was experiencing some weakness and fatigue. We have since initiated the appropriate treatment, and he is showing significant improvement and responding well to the therapy. He has been placed in a special ward room; there was no need to admit him to the ICU, ” the doctor added.Hazare has been kept in a special ward room and does not require intensive care, Bhansali said.Doctors have conducted tests including a 2D echocardiogram and are carrying out further investigations, including urine tests and screenings for infections. The reports are expected within the next three to four days, following which doctors will decide on the further course of treatment.“He is eating and drinking comfortably and is stable,” Bhansali said.The doctor also said Maharashtra chief minister had called after Hazare was admitted to enquire about his health. The chief minister also spoke to doctors on Tuesday to seek an update on his condition.(With agency inputs)
