Patna: A newlywed woman was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands in Vishrampur village under Bhore police station area of Gopalganj district on Monday.Police sent the body to Model Hospital for postmortem. The woman’s husband and mother-in-law have been arrested and are being questioned, police said. An FIR has been registered against three persons, based on the woman’s family complaint.The deceased was identified as Pratima Kumari, wife of Vishrampur resident Umesh Yadav.According to preliminary information, Umesh, son of Rajendra Yadav, married Pratima on May 5 this year. Pratima was the daughter of Ramashankar Yadav and belonged to Bhatwalia Gosai Tola village under Shrirampur police station area in neighbouring Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh.This was Umesh’s second marriage. Local residents said his first wife had died after sustaining burn injuries last year.Pratima’s brother Upendra Yadav alleged, “She was subjected to repeated harassment by her in-laws over dowry demands soon after the marriage. Umesh, his mother and sister jointly strangled Pratima.”Police found dark marks around Pratima’s neck, raising suspicion that she may have been strangled. However, the exact cause of death will be established only after the postmortem, police said.Given the seriousness of allegations, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was called to the spot. The team collected samples from the house and examined the marks around Pratima’s neck as part of the investigation.Jagatouli OP in charge Alok Kumar said police reached the spot after receiving information and started an investigation. Kumar said Pratima’s husband and mother-in-law were arrested for questioning. The roles of the mother-in-law and sister-in-law will also be examined based on the complaint filed by the deceased’s family.The postmortem report is expected to establish the precise cause and circumstances of Pratima’s death, police said.
