Hazaribag: A 70-year-old retired teacher was seriously injured after an unidentified motorcycle-borne assailant allegedly shot at him in Hazaribag district on Sunday, police said.Mahto had gone to a salon near Suryapura Medical Chowk for a shave and was returning home on foot when a man on a motorcycle approached him from behind and allegedly opened fire. Mahto collapsed on the road.Padma OP in-charge Shravan Kumar rushed to the scene with a police team and shifted the injured man to Hazaribag Sadar Hospital. Doctors referred him to Ranchi after providing primary treatment due to the severity of his injuries.Barhi SDPO Radha Prem Kishore said, “Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the assailant. Raids are being conducted at several suspected locations to trace and arrest the accused.”Police said the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Mahto’s statement will be recorded once his condition stabilises.
