Patna: The body of an unidentified middle-aged man was recovered from the Burhi Gandak river beneath Akharaghat bridge under Ahiyapur police station area in Muzaffarpur district on Sunday morning. The police launched a probe into whether the death was a case of suicide or murder.According to police, locals spotted the body floating in the river and alerted other residents, who pulled it out of the water and informed the Dial-112 emergency response team. An Ahiyapur police team soon reached the spot and initiated an investigation.Local resident Arjun Kumar said the body was noticed by some people passing through the area in the morning. As news of the recovery spread, a large number of villagers gathered at the spot.Suspicion among residents over the circumstances of the death led police to examine multiple possibilities, including foul play. While some locals suspect the man may have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped in the river, investigators are also looking into the possibility that he jumped from the bridge.A forensic science team was called to the scene and collected evidence as part of the scientific investigation. The body was later sent to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for postmortem.Confirming the recovery, Muzaffarpur City SP Mohibullah Ansari said efforts were underway to establish the identity of the deceased. He said, “The exact cause and circumstances of death would be known only after the postmortem report is received. The body will remain in the morgue until identification and intimation of family members.”
