Bhagalpur: A couple was killed and their 5-year-old daughter seriously injured after they were hit by a train while crossing the railway tracks at Akbarnagar railway station in Bhagalpur district on Tuesday.Subodh Mandal, 45, and his wife Punam Devi, 36, residents of Bhiti Kharharia village under Shambhuganj block in Banka district, were crossing from platform two towards platform one when they were hit by a Shrawani Mela special train.The couple were travelling to Bhagalpur with their daughter Radhika Kumari for her treatment. According to sources, they attempted to cross the tracks despite a goods train passing on the up-line. After spotting the goods train, they moved towards the down-line, where they were hit by the Shravani Mela Express.Railway police reached the spot after being informed and rushed the injured child to Mayaganj Hospital. She was later admitted to the emergency ward of JLMNCH in Bhagalpur after receiving initial treatment at a local hospital.No official version of the railways was available at the time of filing of this report.
